I wonder if the people who created the ad, the people who brainstormed with the concept, I wonder if they actually understand how Orwellian it is. I mean, nobody wants to be Big Brother. Nobody wants to think of themselves as being identical to the people who tortured Winston Smith and turned the west into North Korea in that novel. Nobody reads 1984 and then, when they hug their wives and children, think “yeah, I want to be like these tyrants. I want to be evil.” Maybe I’m naive.

I do take issue as a matter of fact with Red Light cameras, not honest laws. When the rotations are manipulated to catch people as the last remaining quarter of their vehicle hangs in the intersection– that to me is not a public safety issue….. it’s another unwanted municipal tax. When lights basically bypass the yellow color completely. And the short rotation lights are always at the busiest intersections– they only allow the first few cars through.

On a hunch, I went to Google Maps to see where it zooms in to (I actually live close to where it comes in). As it turns out, the house at the end actually exists! Whoever created the video tried to disguise the area, but it still only took me about 5 minutes to find it.

I wonder if there could be a lawsuit against PA for zeroing in on a private home this way? Would it be worth forwarding this info to some diligent local news team to investigate & inform the homeowner?

@apophysis7 Does it really matter how they address people? The fact of the matter is, you must pay your taxes. If it takes them reminding you that they know where you live, so be it. And yes, I think more red light cameras, etc. would be good. What, do you have a problem with enforcing red light laws?

Uncle Sam has turned into a Pimp and he has no problem bitch slapping his hoe’s when they don’t pay up. If your lucky he will put you back on the corner and not in a ditch somewhere. Welcome to the USSA!

The commercial just shows how oppressing our country is becoming. Everyone is a unsavory criminal in our governments eyes….

This is interesting because the commercial discusses how they will take penalties and interest off the money you “owe”. So the commercial magically becomes less about how they want money and MORE about instilling fear.

I can’t believe you, or anyone, could endorse this manner of addressing the problem. It is extremely un-American to surveil and bully the public in the way depicted in this commercial. Your defense of this tactic is alarming and without merit. By giving the government a nod to conduct themselves in this manner you are saying yes to more red light cameras, speed cameras, license plate monitoring systems, increased tolls etc… You have to be working for them, is this some sick joke?

Just wait until Obama healthcare goes into affect: “Tom, we know you are scheduled for a heart stint next week, and we also know you owe us $4000.00. How bad do you want that stint, Tom? You need to take care of this debt before next week, Tom, or your life may get very complicated”

@apophysis7 You have to pay your back taxes. Oh no, scary thought! Who would have ever thought that they might have to pay taxes? If you want to benefit from a society based on the rule of law, you need to face the fact that there needs to be an apparatus to enforce that law (government) and ways to fund that apparatus (taxes). People who call taxes unjust or unfair disgust me when they reap the benefits of tax-funded agencies and services, like highways and police protection.
